Back To The Future Trainers Are Here

The shoes of the future are here. The news websites have been buzzing this week with the information that, at long last, trainers with laces that tie themselves up automatically, could soon be on our shelves.

The trainers seemed like a funny quirk when they were first seen in the film Back To The Future 2 but sports shoe giants Nike have been working on a pair of trainers that feature an automatic lacing system. This has to be the ultimate shoe for the busy and the lazy – a trainer with laces that tie up all by themselves - although the system that allows the laces to tie is based more on science than magic. Initial illustrations show that the system works by pressing a button near to the heel to tighten and loosen the straps on the top of the trainers. A miniscule battery also near to the heel then pulls the straps tighter automatically.

The shoes have been patented since 2009 and illustrations recently released show that the shoes do look a lot like the self-lacing trainers worn by the character Marty McFly in the Back To the Future film. The trainers are a high top baseball style boot.

Whilst some people may view the trainers as an unnecessary extravagance or the ultimate in laziness, others will welcome anything that can help to save time.
