A UK insurance company recently revealed that the typical woman will spend, on average, £16,000 on shoes in her lifetime. It seems that women just can't get enough of shoes, be they boots, trainers, sandals or stilettos.
After all shoes never let a woman down, going up a dress size can make a woman feel bad about herself but as shoe size usually stays the same, women can be reassured that a new pair of shoes will fit and probably make her feel better. All these shoes means that she is also going to need to think about the various shoe storage solutions available to her.
The survey went on to suggest that Ms Average tends to have around 19 pairs of shoes on the go at any given time. Apparently the average woman's shoe collection includes three pairs of boots, three pairs of heels, four pairs of 'foxy' shoes and six pairs of flats, sandals ballet pumps or wedges.
Another interesting finding from the research indicated that four out of ten women admitted that they would judge another woman by her shoes. It's interesting to think that some people might be assessing parts of your personality or your hobbies or habits just by looking at your shoes.
The survey went on to say that women tend to buy their first pair of shoes without Mum at the age of fourteen and that they will usually buy seven pairs of new shoes per year. So it is easy to see how that will add up over a lifetime.
Over half of the 3000 women surveyed also admitted to keeping their shoe purchases secret from their partners but strangely said that buying shoes did not make them feel guilty. It seems that shoes are just another "weakness" to add to the list which already includes handbags and chocolate!
